New Bus System Recommended

The Columbia School Board Transportation Committee recommended a three-tier transportation system on Tuesday to solve the growing school population.”We recommended a three-tiered system. The high school will start at 7:20 a.m., the middle schools and some elementary schools start at 8:10 a.m., and the rest of the elementary schools starting at 9:10 a.m.,” Vice President Board of Education Christine King said. The committee reviewed the pros and cons of the recommendation.”Some pros include more efficient routing and having kids ride the bus with kids in their same age range,” King said, “Some cons include moving the high school starting time earlier.”According to King, this option comes after months of research where they heard from thousand of parents. The recommendation will be presented to the Columbia Public School Board on Monday. The board will take a final vote on February 11th.
