CPS Narrows School Sites

Columbia Public Schools announced Tuesday it has narrowed its list of potential sites for a new elementary school.The district began with 14 sites and has since narrowed the possibilities to three locations.The current sites under consideration are:- Scott Boulevard and Route KK- Route K and Old Plank Road- Route K and Highpoint LaneThe sites were based on acreage, location of major roads, level of site development and the owner’s willingness to sell. A Long-range Facilities Planning Committee will tour the sites this weekend before possibly making a more formal evaluation. The district plans to open the new school by 2016 with funds approved during the April 2012 bond issue election. This elementary school is in addition to the one that will open in 2015 next to the new Battle High School.
