Bondsmen Shoot at Fugitive

***UPDATE MONDAY 8:47 A.M.***The Audrain County prosecutor confirms three bail bondsmen have been charged in this case.***ORIGINAL STORY, SUNDAY***A wanted fugitive was chased, shot at and beaten by three bail bondsmen Friday afternoon near Mexico.According to an Audrain County Sheriff news release, deputies responded to Oakcrest Trailer Court along Highway 54 for a report of shots fired.An investigation has revealed that one of the bail bondsmen, not from Audrain County, spotted 34-year-old John Hoslman at trailer court. Hoslman, of Fulton, got in his car and drove away. He told deputies he feared he would be shot at again.The bail bondsmen chased Hoslman into the city of Mexico, at the intersection of Green Boulevard and East Liberty Street. He got out and ran into the bathroom of a Mexico business. When the bail bondsmen caught up to him, they allegedly beat him.Holsmen was taken to the Audrain Medical Center and then turned over to the sheriff’s office. He was being held this weekend on $42500 bond for warrants out of Callaway and Cooper counties for stealing, tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, receiving stolen property, and failure-to appear in court on the original charge of failure to register as a sex offender.The Audrain County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating this case with the East Central Drug Task Force and Mexico Public Safety Department.Deputies are still looking for information in the case and are offering a $1000 reward.
