RECALL ROUNDUP: FDA expands hand sanitizer recall; Ford issues recalls for 26,000 vehicles

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Food and Drug Administration is expanding the list of hand sanitizers that could contain methanol contamination.

The FDA is recalling at least 75 hand sanitizers, saying toxic levels of wood alcohol in them can cause injury or death.

The substance can be toxic when absorbed through the skin and can also be deadly when ingested. Some of those hand sanitizers were sold at Walmart, Costco and other national chains.

The agency said it is aware of adults and children ingesting hand sanitizer products contaminated with methanol, which has led to in some cases blindness, hospitalization and death.

Methanol is not an acceptable active ingredient for hand sanitizer and shouldn't be used because of its toxic effects.

Ford recall

Ford Motor Company is recalling nearly 26,000 cars in North America because of potential safety issues.

The recall covers select 2016-2020 Lincoln MKX models, Nautilus vehicles with 16-way power seats, 2021 Ford F-650 and F-750 trucks and select 2020 Ford Escapes and Transit vehicles.

Some of the vehicles have wiring damage that would cause the airbag system to not deploy as intended, which could increase the risk of injury.

In select 2020 Ford Escape and Transit vehicles, certain airbags may not inflate properly.

Some of the 2020 Ford Transit vehicles were built at the Kansas City Assembly Plant from Feb. 18 to March 19.
