Boone Health becomes an independent health care provider

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Boone Health will officially become an independent health care provider Thursday as the hospital aims to be more community-driven.

In September 2018, the Trustees and BJC mutually agreed that BJC’s lease of Boone Hospital would end. After evaluating options, the Trustees announced in August 2019 that Boone Hospital would transition to an independent community hospital.

The Boone Hospital Center Board of Trustees and BJC HealthCare agreed the full transition from the BJC system would become official April 1.

The date was originally set for Jan. 1, 2021. The three-month adjustment change is largely a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Boone Health CEO Troy Greer said the change won't change the hospital's brand or patient care.

"We've served this area for the last century, and looking forward to having a slightly different approach to how we do that is I think a wonderful opportunity," Greer said.

The CEO continued to praise his team and everyone involved for completing the transition amid the ongoing pandemic.
