Jay-Z said he’ll just do the Super Bowl Halftime Show himself

(CNN) — The NFL didn’t have to look far for next year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show performer.

Rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z, who has served in an advisory role to the NFL through his company Roc Nation since 2019, announced he will perform at the Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show in February.

The statement did not rule out or promise any additional performers.

In his role as live music entertainment strategist and social justice adviser, Jay-Z has effectively been responsible for selecting the talent that graces the halftime show stage for the last few years.

“When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that JAŸ-Z” — that is how the mogul currently styles his name — “take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in the announcement.

Last year’s halftime performer was Bad Bunny, who, in just 13 minutes, gave both a sprawling American history education and a top-notch music lesson.

It is not yet known whether the performance will be a family affair, but a guest appearance from his wife Beyoncé is certainly not out of the question.

Both have appeared as special guests at each other’s concerts and went on tour together in 2014 and 2018 when they co-headlined the “On the Run Tour” and “On the Run Tour II,” respectively.

More recently, Beyoncé has popped up as a surprise guest on Jay-Z’s “Reasonable Doubt 30th Anniversary Tour,” which is set to conclude October 24 in Los Angeles.

Beyoncé was the headliner at Super Bowl XLVII in 2013 where she reunited her group Destiny’s Child as part of the performance and was a guest performer (alongside Bruno Mars) during Coldplay’s headlining performance at Super Bowl 50 in 2016.

The couple, married in 2008, are the parents of three children.

Super Bowl LXI is scheduled for Sunday, February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California — and who better to rep Valentine’s Day than those two?
