KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KMBC) — The Negro Leagues are heading to MLB The Show.

On Monday, Kansas City’s Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and the sport’s biggest video game announced a multi-year partnership to tell the story of the players and the league’s historical impact.

MLB The Show 23 introduces eight Negro League players and their stories, narrated by NLBM President Bob Kendrick.

“It’s a groundbreaking, game-changing day for the NLBM! Y’all, please join me in officially welcoming the Negro Leagues into MLB The Show,” Kenrick said in a tweet Monday.

The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum plans to use MLB TheShow as a gateway to expose new generations of baseball fans to these historic figures and their stories of triumph over adversity.

The game’s developers also celebrated the announcement when it was first announced in February.

“Our goals align with the museums to educate, enlighten, and inspire by celebrating the rich history of the Negro Leagues,” San Diego Studio said in a press release.

Every new launch of MLB The Show represents a new season. San Diego Studio plans to introduce a new group of unknown Black baseball superstars with each new edition of the game.

Season 1 includes Leroy “Satchel” Paige, Jackie Robinson, Andrew “Rube” Foster, Hilton Smith, Hank Thompson, John Donaldson, Martin Dihigo and John Jordan “Buck” O’Neil.

In addition, to celebrate the partnership, San Diego Studio will donate $1 to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum for every copy of MLB The Show 23 Collector’s Edition sold in the US.

That includes the Digital Deluxe and The Captain Edition from today through December 31, 2023.

MLB The Show 23 is now out on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
