SALINAS, California (KSBW) — A longtime California Rodeo Salinas tradition returns to downtown on Sunday afternoon.

The 2022 Kiddie Kapers Parade will take place at 3 p.m. starting at the corner of San Luis Street and Main Street. The theme for this year’s parade is ‘Bull-ieve in Yourself’.

All kids can participate and are encouraged to dress up as whatever they want. Registration begins at 2 p.m. at the Salinas Recreation Center on Lincoln Street.

Children in the parade are grouped into eight divisions for judging. Divisions are Playground Floats, Cowboys and Cowgirls, Strollers & Wagons, Community Groups, Costumed Kids & Pets, Dance & Drill Teams, Group Floats and Rolling Riders (skates, rollerblades, scooters, skateboards, bikes and trikes-helmets required).

Road closures will be in place along the downtown parade route. This includes San Luis Street, Main Street, Salinas Street, Gabilan Street, Alisal Street and Lincoln Avenue.

The 2022 Kiddie Kapers Parade Grand Marshal is retired Monterey County Sheriff Deputy Pat DuVal, known locally as the “Singing Sheriff” and the first Black deputy in Monterey County.
