ANKENY, Iowa (KCCI) — Some students and staff members are defending the Gay-Straight Alliance Club after a drag show was held at Ankeny High School.

The drag show made some parents upset. They said it was inappropriate.

Some pushed back at that idea at Monday night’s school board meeting. It was an event for the GSA club, not for all students.

Ankeny Schools said the club didn’t have permission to host the event beforehand.

Some of the speakers pushed the board to keep GSA as a club.

KCCI asked the district whether it is considering dropping GSA. The school has not responded.
