Students assemble ‘care kits’ for homeless Louisville residents

    LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (WLKY) — Students spent Thursday helping some of Louisville’s most vulnerable.

The students at St. X assembled personal care kits for the homeless.

Each kit included first aid supplies as well as personal care items like toothbrushes, soap, and socks.

The school partnered with SOS. The local nonprofit provides unused medical supplies to those in need.

“The volunteers are what make this organization go, so when they come in they do the heavy work which is sorting all of this stuff and identifying what it is and making sure nothing is expired, slips through the cracks and gets to people,” said Demetrius Wingate, SOS operations manager.

The kits will be donated to the Coalition for the Homeless during the group’s annual Street Count, which will be held Feb. 21 this year.

They will be passed out, next month, during the coalition’s annual street count.
