At Kari Lake’s 3rd trial related to Arizona election, county makes case to protect ballot signatures

PHOENIX (AP) — An election official and lobbyists were among the witnesses Maricopa County attorneys brought out the first day of a trial in another lawsuit filed by Kari Lake, the defeated Republican in last year’s Arizona governor’s race. The trial will decide if Lake will get access to ballot envelopes signed by approximately 1.3 million early voters in the state’s most populous county. Recorder Stephen Richer said on the stand Thursday that releasing the envelopes could have a “chilling effect” on voters. The former TV anchor lost a previous suit that contested her loss to Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs by more than 17,000 votes. Lake’s latest case is a public records lawsuit.
