SATURDAY UPDATES: New cases in Boone County; Missouri sets record for new COVID-19 cases

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

UPDATE: 5:27 P.M.: The Columbia/Boone County Health Department reported 28 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday bringing the total up to 871.

There were 306 active cases out of that total number.

There have been three deaths in Boone County associated with the virus.

ORIGINAL: The Department of Health and Senior Services reported a record number of new COVID-19 cases numbers Saturday with an increase of 958.

The previous state record was recorded on Tuesday July 14 with 936.

The department also reported nine new deaths associated with the virus Saturday bringing the death toll up to 1,130.

New data on state hospitalizations has not been available since Wednesday. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services says in a message on its COVID-19 dashboard that a change in the platform the White House uses to report hospitalizations has made the state data unavailable.

The most recent number was 875, which reflects hospitalizations last Sunday.

The state's online reporting dashboard showed that number trending upward before the data was cut off.
