Fulton City Council supports I-70 bridge replacement

The Fulton City Council said it supports Gov. Mike Parson’s proposal to borrow money to replace the bridge over the Missouri River at Rocheport at its meeting Tuesday.

Parson has proposed a plan to repair or replace 250 bridges in Missouri. The state would borrow $351 million in bonds to pay for the projects. However, some state legislators are proposing alternatives to the financing, including a plan to spend $150 million per year from general revenue on bridges.

The Missouri Department of Transportation says the bridge must either be rehabilitated or replaced. If the state doesn’t secure funding for the replacement, the rehab is set for next year.

The city council on Tuesday will take up a resolution urging the passage of Parson’s proposal.

The council’s meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.
