Chariton County teacher charged with sexual contact with student

A teacher at a Chariton County school district has been charged with having sexual contact with a high school senior.

Authorities on Monday issued an arrest warrant for Blair Bruner, 27, of Marceline, with a $10,000 cash-only bond on a felony charge of sexual contact with a student. Bruner is accused of sending lewd photos via the social media service Snapchat to a senior at Northwestern R-I High School in Mendon and touching him inappropriately, according to court documents.

Bruner was the special education teacher for grades 7-12 at the time the offenses are alleged to have happened, starting in November or December. The school district placed her on paid leave and she was set to resign this month.

The alleged crime was discovered when a school board member saw one of the photos on the student’s phone and alerted school officials, who then contacted law enforcement, according to the probable cause statement filed in Bruner’s case.

Bruner started at the school in August, the superintendent told investigators.

Superintendent Eric Hoyt said Tuesday in a written statement that did not identify Bruner by name said a staff member involved in a criminal investigation resigned.

Bruner had not been booked into the Chariton County Jail as of Tuesday morning. She did not have an attorney listed in online court records.
