Bond granted in Darnell Gray death case

The woman accused in the death of a Jefferson City 4-year-old was given a $100,000 cash-only bond Thursday.

Quatavia Givens, 26, was indicted for felony abuse or neglect of a child in late 2018 after the death of Darnell Gray. Givens reported Gray missing, touching off several days of searches for the boy, police said. Authorities allege she had actually killed the boy and hidden his body.

Gray was found dead in the 2100 block of Louis Circle in Jefferson City in October.

Givens had been jailed without bond.

“I’m making this a cash only bond,” Judge Jon Beetem said Thursday. “I should note that if you are able to make that bond, then you lose your public defender because you would be found to not qualify for their services.”

The jury for Givens case will be drawn from Johnson County.

A status hearing in the case has been scheduled for May 14.
