Charges filed in Cole County chase from May

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Prosecutors charged a Texas woman Wednesday for allegedly leading authorities on a chase in Cole and Callaway counties in May.

Carllette Shanklin, 42, of Houston has not been arrested, according to online court records. She is charged with vehicle theft, resisting arrest and careless driving.

Shanklin led law enforcement on a chase May 8 that began on Highway 54 in Cole County and ended in Callaway County near Highway 54's intersection with Route AA/OO, according to a probable cause statement. The SUV that Shanklin was driving reached speeds over 100 mph, the statement says.

At one point Shanklin avoided spike strips and hit a police cruiser but kept driving, the statement says. The vehicle later broke down.

Authorities had to use force to arrest Shanklin but the statement didn't specify what type of force was used or whether she was injured. Shanklin was hospitalized after the chase.

Houston police told a highway patrol investigator that the vehicle Shanklin was driving had been stolen from Houston the day before the chase, according to the statement. The SUV owner told Houston police that Shanklin borrowed the vehicle to get groceries and never came back, the statement says.
