Trials pushed back for two in DeBrodie case

Two people charged in the 2017 death of a Fulton man had their trials pushed back to a later date after a court hearing on Monday.

Sherry Paulo and Mary Paulo were accused in the death of Carl DeBrodie after his body was found encased in concrete at a Fulton storage unit in April 2017.

Sherry’s trial will be pushed back until sometime after August 2019 due to pending federal charges. Mary was given a continuance due to personal reasons.

“(There are) conflicting emotions because we have to wait so long, but we are thrilled that there are federal charges pending,” said DeBrodie’s former guardian Mary Martin.

Sherry was charged with two misdemeanors and three felonies, including involuntary manslaughter. Mary was charged with misdemeanor making a false report of a missing person.

Sherry managed Second Chance Homes, where DeBrodie was a resident at the time of his death.

Shaina Osborne and Anthony R. K. Flores pleaded guilty to making a false report in connection with a missing person in February.

A federal judge in December 2018 approved a settlement in a civil case over DeBrodie’s death brought by his mother, Carolyn Summers.

Anthony R. Flores was also charged in the criminal case and has a court hearing scheduled for March 25.
