Video shows fight that led to charges against legislative aide

Video obtained Friday by ABC 17 News shows the fight in a Jefferson City bar that prompted two misdemeanor charges against a legislative aide.

The video shows the March 7 confrontation between Jared Brown and another man who had not been charged as of Friday afternoon. In the video a man wearing a suit jacket later identified as Brown and another man sitting at the bar appear to have a heated discussion before starting to fight. At one point both men are on the ground wrestling before the fight is broken up and Brown is taken out of the frame.

Brown was arrested last week on suspicion of unlawful use of a weapon and using a weapon while intoxicated after the fight at Spectators Bar and Grill. He is charged with unlawful use of a weapon and peace disturbance. A probable cause statement was filed in the case Thursday and a criminal summons issued to Brown on Friday, according to online court records.

Arraignment was set for April 19.

Brown works for state Sen. Justin Brown, R-Rolla. Sen. Brown said in a statement this week that Jared Brown will take a leave of absense to get “the help he needs.”

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch also reported two other lawmakers, Republican Reps. Nick Schroer of O’Fallon and Bruce DeGroot of Chesterfield, got into a fight the same night at the Eagles Club. Jefferson City police were not sent to the Eagles incident, a spokesman said Wednesday.
