Governor announces acting director for Department of Revenue

Gov. Mike Parson announced Ken Zellers as the acting director of the Missouri Department of Revenue on Friday after current Director Joel Walters resigned.

Walters said his last day on the job will be March 22. The resignation comes after Walters was criticized for his handling of state tax refunds.

Earlier this month, Walters told the House Special Committee on Government Oversight that the revenue issue was caused by the federal tax cuts and a miscalculation of the state’s withholding tables.

Zellers currently serves as the chief operating officer for the Department of Revenue and will take on the role as acting director once Walters leaves.

Walters has held his position since April 2017 when he was appointed by then-Gov. Eric Greitens.
