Lawmakers propose new medical marijuana bill to expunge record

State lawmakers could vote on a new bill Wednesday, House bill 341, that proposes medical marijuana card holders could be eligible to have their marijuana-related charges removed from their record.

Currently, medical marijuana ID card holders are able to have two marijuana-related misdemeanors expunged.

However, this new bill specifies no expungement limit for all marijuana-related misdemeanors and violations.

The bill proposes that the Department of Health and Senior Services must notify a medical marijuana card holder that he or she is eligible to have certain marijuana charges removed from their record.

After expungement, records and files are only available to the individuals’ party or by the court for good reason.

Proponents of the bill said it would be cost-effective to the state.

House bill 341 said “We are nearing full employment and need to expand the workforce and this bill makes sense.”
