Callaway County deputies arrest suspected church burglar

Callaway County deputies arrested a man Monday who allegedly burglarized a church.

The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested Valrey Johnson, 25, of Jefferson City, following an investigation in Hatton.

According to a news release, deputies responded to the 3600 block of State Road E around 6:30 a.m. to investigate reports of a suspicious person. When deputies arrived, they were unable to find the person, but discovered a Hatton church had recently been burglarized.

Deputies later found Johnson nearby with stolen property from the church, authorities said.

Prosecutors charged Johnson with felony burglary and felony stealing.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted with the investigation.
