Fulton sex offender sentenced in federal court

A Fulton man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison without parole after being charged with transporting a minor for sex.

Michael Collins, 22, is a prior sex offender who also faces 25 years of supervised probation after he’s released from prison.

Collins pleaded guilty in 2018 to transporting a 13-year-old across state lines for sex. He was aided by his mother and grandmother who transported the teenager from Alabama. Collins admitted in court to paying his grandmother $400 to pickup the minor. The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office was contacted with information on the child when a cellphone ping put her in the Fulton area.

Collins was on probation from a previous conviction of sexual misconduct involving a child when he was in contact with the teen.
