MoDOT will monitor road conditions overnight

Road crews will watch for refreeze and patchy slick spots overnight Sunday, March 3 into Monday.

The Missouri Department of Transportation said Sunday’s windy conditions made clearing the roads more challenging as snow often drifted back onto the roadways.

All roads in the central district were clear or mostly clear by Sunday evening, according to the MoDOT traveler map.

Boone County Road and Bridge Spokesperson Greg Edington said the sunshine helped road treatments melt the snow more effectively. The county’s day shift crews will report to work at 7 a.m. Monday morning.

MoDOT and the county said Monday morning’s single digit temperatures shouldn’t have major impacts on the roadways since most areas were cleared on Sunday, but any areas with snow could be slick due to refreeze overnight.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop F responded to 90 calls for service, 20 stranded motorists, 19 crashes, 3 injuries and no fatalities from midnight to 2 p.m. Sunday.

The City of Columbia Solid Waste Utility will cancel curbside recycle and trash collection on Monday, March 4 due to the freezing temperatures.

“Due to forecasted life-threatening temperatures and wind chills, Solid Waste collection will be delayed by one day the entire week,” said Communications and Marketing Manager Brian Adkisson in a news release.
