Boonville PD to add extra patrols for joggers following concerns from residents
BOONVILLE, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Boonville Police Department will increase patrols on Main Street after residents raised concerns following recent attacks on joggers across the nation.
Police officers reassure residents no attacks happened in the area, however, officers plan to increase patrols during the early morning hours to give residents peace of mind. The department shared on Facebook the patrols shouldn't impact patrols in other parts of Boonville.
Police Chief Randy Ayers said while the department doesn't believe there is a risk in Boonville for attacks on joggers, officers will provide coverage for them to give, "peace of mind and to make sure nothing does happen."
Ayers said the police department is aware there are joggers in other neighborhoods across the city but officers want to focus on the Main Street area as that's where many joggers run in the mornings.
The police chief reminds residents to stay vigilant and aware of their surroundings while out exercising, especially while wearing headphones.
Ayers urges residents to carry their phones with them and to call 911 if needed.
