Following morning snow, bitter arctic air takes over through Monday

The ABC 17 StormTrack Weather Team has issued a Weather Alert Day for Tonight and Monday morning ahead of bitter arctic cold.

TONIGHT: Skies will remain mostly clear this evening as temperatures plummet through the teens and single digits after dark. Clear skies will assist in cooling us off. However, a steady breeze will help keep our temperatures from going below zero, for most of Mid-Missouri. You’ll want to bundle up and cover any exposed skin. Frost bite can occur within 30 minutes in these conditions.

MONDAY: The cold will be tough to kick out on Monday. Even under full sunshine we will struggle to climb through the 10s during the day. Wind chills will remain below zero through noon. Highs will reach the mid to upper 10s by the afternoon hours as winds slowly relax into the evening. Slowly taper over by the evening.

EXTENDED: Breezes ramp right back up into Tuesday as high pressure shifts to our south. We can expect another bitterly cold morning and day with temperatures in the mid 20s. We’ll likely be waking up to below zero wind chills on Tuesday as well. Our next chance at precipitation arrives on Thursday. It looks to have the potential to be a potent system, however, models are keeping us on the mostly rain side of the storm at the moment.
