Crazy cold into next week

THURSDAY: After this morning’s snow showers, the bulk of the wintry precip continues to move off to the east for this afternoon. A few flurries are still possible through the first part of the afternoon, but no more accumulation is expected. Slick spots may persist on the roadways through the evening as temperatures today won’t climb back above freezing. Clouds will be breaking up in the afternoon north of I-70 as highs only rise to near 30.

TONIGHT: It’ll be a calm, but cold night ahead under partly cloudy skies. Temperatures dip back into the low 20s. Easterly winds will calm through the night, which luckily won’t create much of a wind chill through the morning.

EXTENDED: After a cold morning Friday, temperatures will climb to near seasonal through the afternoon back into the mid 40s. This is under a mix of sun and clouds. After a brief warm up, our next chance at winter weather moves in this weekend. A front will cool temperatures down for Saturday into the mid 30s. In the wake of cooler air, snow chances will increase into Sunday. As of now, this looks like an all snow event. Latest model data is suggesting that we’ll be looking at a widespread accumulating snow event that brings at least light to moderate snowfall. The heaviest bands will set up in our southwestern counties, giving the Lake of the Ozarks area the heaviest accumulation. This brings a possibility of 3-4″. Behind this snow, we enter next week with bitterly cold temperatures and dry conditions. Temperatures into next week will be 20-30 degrees below average with highs in the 20s.
