On and off wintry mix and snow chances through the weekend

***WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FROM UNTIL 6 AM FOR BENTON, COOPER, PETTIS, MORGAN & SALINE COUNTIES***

TONIGHT: Clouds will increase tonight ahead of a cold front with spotty light rain and drizzle developing in western Missouri by 8 PM, spreading to the east. As temperatures drop below freezing as the cold front passes through, the light rain could freeze on surfaces. The threat for ice is best in areas west of HWY 63. Winds shift out of the northwest through the night up to 10 mph creating wind chills in the low to mid 20s.

WEDNESDAY: Drizzle ends early Wednesday and we’ll stay dry but mostly cloudy as chilly air settles in. Highs will only reach the upper 30s with winds from the northwest up to 10 mph.

EXTENDED: There is a chance of a light wintry mix late Wednesday night into early Thursday as an upper level disturbance passes through as moisture moves in from the southwest, lifting north. A glaze to a tenth inch of ice is possible from this which could lead to some slick roads for the Thursday morning commute with highest ice amounts closer to I-44. We’ll stay in the low to mid 30s Thursday but will warm back to near 40 Friday before arctic air arrives for the first weekend of March. Light rain is possible Friday, briefly changing to snow Friday night before ending with no snow accumulation. Highs will only reach into the upper 20s to near 30 Saturday, dropping to near 10 Saturday night. There is a slight snow chance early in the day Saturday. The arctic air looks like it will hang around through the weekend with a chance of snow Sunday. Check back with ABC 17 News for the latest forecast.
