Jury to be drawn from Johnson County for woman accused in Darnell Gray death

The jury for the trial of a woman accused in the death of Darnell Gray, 4, of Jefferson City, will be drawn from Johnson County, according to a Cole County judge.

Quatavia Givens, 26, had a court hearing on Tuesday, which determined details of the case, including where the jury will be drawn from.

Jefferson City police arrested Givens in October for child abuse that allegedly killed Gray. Police said they found Gray’s body in the woods in the 2100 block of Louis Circle with blunt and sharp force trauma to his body in multiple locations. According to a probable cause statement, Givens told police she “may have hit him wrong.”

Givens will appear in court again on March 5 for a bond hearing.

Attorneys in the case said the trial could take up to a week.
