Two plead guilty to misdemeanors in DeBrodie case
Two people accused of making false reports in connection with the 2017 death of a disable Fulton man pleaded guilty Monday to misdemeanor charges.
Shaina Osborne and Anthony R.K. Flores each pleaded guilty to making a false report in connection with a missing person, a Class A misdemeanor. Osborne was given a 30-day jail sentence that was suspended while she serves two years of probation.
Flores was sentenced to eight months in jail.
A condition of Osborne’s probation is that she stay off social media after authorities said she had made inflammatory Facebook posts. Osborne also goes by the last name Daniels.
Flores and Osborne were charged after Carl DeBrodie’s body was found in a Fulton storage shed in April 2017 after DeBrodie was reported missing about a week earlier. Flores was originally charged with two counts of misdemeanor making a false report about a missing person.
Both Flores and Osborne had trials scheduled to start later this week.
With their pleas, Flores and Osborne admitted to lying to investigators about when DeBrodie had last been seen, Callaway County Prosecuting Attorney Chris Wilson said in a news release. Flores and Osborne are romantically linked and the other defendants in the case are Flores’ family members.
Another defendant, Anthony R. Flores, is set for trial March 27 on charges of involuntary manslaughter, abandoning a corpse and making a false report about a missing person.
Two other defendants are also charged in the case. Sherry Paulo is charged with two misdemeanors and three felonies, including involuntary manslaughter.
Mary Paulo is charged with misdemeanor making a false report of a missing person.
Documents filed in the criminal cases and a wrongful death suit allege DeBrodie’s caretakers, which included Anthony R.K. Flores and Osborne, forced DeBrodie to fight other disabled people and that he wasn’t given medical attention before he died.
Authorities have said they believe DeBrodie was missing long before he was reported missing.
