Snow and Ice to impact travel Tuesday Evening and Wednesday Morning

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR ALL MID-MISSOURI COUNTIES AS EARLY AS THIS AFTERNOON AT 12 PM THROUGH TOMORROW MORNING AT 9 AM

A FULL BREAKDOWN ON THIS STORM CAN BE FOUND ON OUR WEATHER ALERT DAY BLOG.

THIS AFTERNOON: We’re continuing to track cold and dry conditions across Mid-Missouri this afternoon. Our precipitation is just entering Arkansas as of 11am, that is pushing northward and will enter southern Mid-Missouri between 5 & 6pm. The precip shield of snow and freezing rain will track toward I-70 by 7 & 8pm, and to the north by 9pm. Take it slow for the evening commute if precipitation begins falling on your drive home.

TONIGHT: Late evening and overnight, snow will gradually change to freezing rain and drizzle before ending and ice accumulation is possible by early Wednesday morning. Most areas north of I-70 will see precip remain as snow, but areas from Columbia to the south will see the changeover. Temperatures dip into the upper 20s to 30 by morning. You really don’t do yourself a disservice by giving yourself a bit of extra time out the door in the morning… Plan on leaving 15 or so minutes early to scrape off your car and expect to take it slow on the roadways– Sidewalks, side roads, bridges and overpasses will have slick spots.

EXTENDED: The heaviest snow overnight continues to look like it will setup across northwestern portions of Mid-Missouri, with 1-3″ falling on average falling through the area. Ice looks likely, especially between I-70 and HWY 54… give yourself plenty of extra travel time out the door Wednesday morning. The good news is that temperatures quickly jump above freezing tomorrow which will give us much better road conditions for the afternoon and evening commute. Beyond Wednesday we’re tracking a nice day Thursday and Friday with a chance at thunderstorms arriving by Saturday. Watch ABC 17 News for the latest forecast and check back here for updates.
