Columbia hires new city treasurer
The city of Columbia filled a years-long vacancy in it’s finance department on Friday with a new treasurer.
Chelsea Miller started Monday as treasurer, according to a Friday news release from the city. Miller will manage “the revenue and cash flow of the City, along with overseeing the cashier customer service area,” said interim Finance Department Director Janet Frazier.
Miller previously worked as finance director of Onshore Outsourcing, an information technology firm in Macon. She earned an MBA from the University of Central Missouri.
“One of my goals is to work with my department to truly understand how to positively impact the City’s Strategic Plan so we can all have guiding goals for priorities that are important for the community,” Miller said in the release.
Critics of the city’s financial management pointed to the two-year vacancy in that position as a reason the government needed a performance audit. At one point last fall, the city had no treasurer, internal auditor or permanent director of the finance department.
Interim City Manager John Glascock hired Carey Bryce last month to work as the city’s internal auditor. Bryce previously worked in the same position for the city of Oceanside, California.
