Cold air and snow move in through Friday

TONIGHT: Much colder air moves in, dropping temperatures into the upper 20s by 11 and into the upper teens to low 20s by morning in the wake of a cold front. Northwest winds from 10-18 mph will make it feel like the single digits by morning under mostly cloudy skies.

FRIDAY: Another upper level wave will move through Mid-Missouri Friday, spreading snow across the areas starting after 8 AM from the west to east. Light to moderate bands of snow will increase from west to east, becoming widespread in the afternoon. We expect light snow accumulation with this system by the time it moves out Friday night after 8 PM. Also, some freezing rain could mix in with the snow south of HWY 50 where up to a tenth of an inch of ice is also possible in the Ozarks along with snow accumulation. By the afternoon and evening Friday there could be some impacts to travel. Take it slow. On average most areas will see 2-3″, with some areas up to 5 inches, with highest totals west of HWY 63.

EXTENDED: With a dry and cold afternoon Saturday, another system moves in Saturday night into Sunday morning, bringing an additional shot of light accumulating snow. With this second batch only a dusting to 1″ of snow is expected, which will lie mainly north of I-70. Temperatures look like they will stay below average for much of the next week as this unsettled pattern delivers reinforcing shots of cold air.
