Columbia man arrested after multiple stealing charges

A Columbia man was booked into Boone County Jail on Wednesday after he was arrested in connection with multiple stealing and burglary charges dating back to September.

Kaeleb A. Smith, 28, allegedly took more than $900 worth of blood glucose test strips from the Hy-Vee on Nifong on Sunday and Monday. Smith ordered the items, and while he was waiting for the order, he called the pharmacy and identified himself as a store manager, court documents said. The pharmacy employees thought the strips had already been paid for.

Smith has an extensive stealing history, dating as far back as September. He allegedly stole more than $1,700 worth of property in on Range Line Street near Columbia College. One of the items Smith stole was an iPhone 8, which he then sold to a local business, court documents said.

Then, in December, Smith broke into a Columbia Parks and Recreation office on Paquin Street and stole $50 in cash and damaged a safe, court documents said.

In January, Smith allegedly stole two tires and a TV from the Walmart on W Broadway in Columbia.

His charges include second-degree burglary and stealing. Smith is being held in the Boone County Jail on no bond.
