Valentine’s Day brings a spring like afternoon with cold air arriving tonight
THURSDAY: Another unseasonably warm afternoon will be in store for Mid-Missouri for your Valentine’s Day. With continued southerly winds becoming breezy at times ahead of another approaching cold front, temperatures will push towards 60 by the afternoon, with the best chance of getting there in the southeast. That cold front will work through the area toward the evening, turning winds out of the northwest, but we look to stay dry.
TONIGHT: Temperatures will drop back into the upper teens to low 20s by morning in the wake of a cold front. Northwest winds from 9-15 mph will make it feel like the single digits by morning under partly cloudy skies.
EXTENDED: The cold air in place by tonight sets the stage for another round of winter weather. Another upper level wave will move through Mid-Missouri after this front, bringing increasing snow chances tomorrow morning after 9 AM. A Winter Weather Advisory goes into effect Friday at 9 AM until midnight for the following counties: Macon, Chariton, Salin, Randolph Howard, Cooper, & Pettis. Light to moderate bands of snow will increase from west to east, becoming widespread for the afternoon. We could see some light accumulations with this system by the time it moves out Friday night after 8 PM. By the afternoon and evening Friday there could be some impacts to travel. Take it slow. On average most areas will see 2-3″, with areas to the southwest near the Lake of the Ozarks up to 4″. With a dry and cold afternoon Saturday, another system moves in Saturday night into Sunday morning, bringing an additional shot of light accumulating snow. With this second batch only a dusting to 1″ of snow is expected, which will lie mainly north of I-70. Temperatures look like they will stay at or below freezing for much of the next week as this unsettled pattern delivers reinforcing shots of cold air.
