Rain and wintry mix moves in Sunday night; slick AM commute for some
TONIGHT: We’re tracking another system that will move in tonight with rain increasing from south to north after 8 PM. Areas north of HWY 50 will stay near or below freezing and freezing rain is possible while areas farther south will stay with all rain in the above freezing temperatures. As the precipitation makes it north of I-70, sleet could mix in with the freezing rain early Monday morning. Roads could be slick for the Monday morning commute and travelers are urged to use caution. The best chance of ice will be north of I-70. Dense fog is expected south of I-70 in the Ozarks and travelers should expect reduced visibilities through mid-morning Monday.
MONDAY: Rain continues through the day Monday as temperatures will slowly warm to above freezing by mid to late morning. This will help improve road conditions for areas that did see some ice accumulation early. However, areas north of HWY 24 will likely stay at freezing and roads will continue to be slick with some snow, sleet and freezing rain possible through the day. Highs will range from the upper 30s at the Lake of the Ozarks to near freezing near HWY 36.
EXTENDED: Precipitation tapers off Monday evening with a brief break before moisture on the back side of the storm system moves in with the cold front. As that cold air moves in, we could see a transition to snow with minor accumulation possible before ending early Tuesday morning. Colder air moves in quickly with the help of wind gusts around 30-35 mph throughout the day on Tuesday and temperatures in the 30s, dropping to the low 20s Tuesday night. Winds look to turn out of the south on Wednesday, keeping the bulk of the cold air out of the region, helping temperatures into the upper 40s to low 50s Wednesday and upper 50s Thursday, making for a nice warm up. Another storm system moves in Thursday bringing a chance of rain late Thursday followed by colder air and a chance of light snow Friday. Temperatures will be much colder by Friday afternoon, in the low to mid 30s and will only reach near 30 this weekend. Watch ABC 17 News for the latest forecast and check back here for updates.
