Ice-covered roads cause crashes, airport delays in mid-Missouri
Slick roads due to freezing rain caused multiple crashes in the Columbia and surrounding areas Sunday morning.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to 32 crashes Sunday morning.
Waiting a few hours to travel is your best bet. There are still several slick areas in Troop F.

Boone County personnel have responded to at least eight crashes. Highway WW was closed at El Chaparral at approximately 6:45 a.m. Sunday due to icy road conditions.

Large vehicles like semis had a difficult time stopping on the icy roads. One truck got stuck around 6:30 a.m. on the ramp onto Highway 63 southbound.
According to a Boone County officials, a fire truck had to wait for a salt truck to treat roads on Highway WW before it could leave. Several vehicles on Highway WW and other roads slid off into the ditch.
A light rain began falling around 4:45 a.m. Sunday, and Columbia Public Works had crews out treating roads starting at 3 a.m. Sunday. Drivers should avoid travel.

Several flights into Columbia Regional Airport have been canceled. The airport has both runways closed because of the slick conditions.
ABC 17 News also had crews monitoring roads, and traffic was moving slower than usual in Columbia and on Interstate 70. According to MoDOT’s traveler map, Columbia roads are either partly covered or completely covered.
