Judge allows lawsuit against Rep. Reisch over Twitter blocking
A federal judge denied a representative’s request to dismiss a lawsuit filed against her after she was accused of blocking a constituent on Twitter.
Attorney Andy Hirth sued Rep. Cheri Toalson Reisch, R-Hallsville, on behalf of Mike Campbell, a local attorney.
The lawsuit claimed Reisch blocked Campbell after he re-tweeted a tweet from Representative Kip Kendrick, D-Columbia, that criticized Reisch for pointing out that her Democratic opponent in the November election had put her hands behind her back during the Pledge of Allegiance.
In a court filing Friday, the judge agreed with a New York court that ruled President Donald Trump can’t block people on his Twitter page, saying the comments section of a tweet by a government official is a public space.
Reisch said she is disappointed about the ruling, but will have an official statement on Monday.
