More wintry weather moving into Mid-Missouri tonight
***ALL OF MID-MISSOURI UNDER A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY STARTING AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT***
SATURDAY: We’re waking up to another frigid morning, but this afternoon we will actually see some improvement in the temperatures. Under mostly sunny skies, we’ll see those afternoon highs making it into the low to mid 30s. Clouds will start to increase as we head into the later afternoon and evening hours tonight.
TONIGHT: Clouds will be on the increase out ahead of our next approaching weather maker in Mid-Missouri. As moisture moves in from the west, light freezing rain is possible south of I-70 with temperatures in the 20s with areas along and north of the interstate seeing mostly snow.
EXTENDED: This precipitation will be ongoing into Sunday morning before quickly moving out toward the afternoon. Travel in the morning could become hazardous as road temperatures are near freezing, even though we’ll likely stay under 2″ of snowfall and 0.10″ of ice. Temperatures get back above freezing by the afternoon, melting most if not all wintry precipitation from the morning. A break in the activity won’t be long-lived, as another system moves in Sunday night into Monday. As of this morning, this second wave looks like mostly rain for Mid-Missouri, but we’ll be tracking it through the weekend. If temperatures do not warm up as much as advertised, we could be dealing with a wintry mix in parts for the Monday morning commute. This system lingers into the evening, but temperatures look to stay above freezing into the overnight hours. As this system moves through Tuesday, we’ll once again see breezy conditions develop, with gusts to 30-40 mph. We see a break in the active weather Wednesday, with temperatures getting closer to where they should be this time of year, before another system moves in Thursday.
