Winter Weather Advisory continues as freezing rain is possible today
***Winter Weather Advisory until noon Thursday for Boone, Audrain, Moniteau, Macon, Chariton, Randolph, Monroe, Howard, Cooper, Saline, and Pettis counties for possible ice due to additional freezing rain***
WEDNESDAY: Fog, rain and freezing rain are possible early with showers impacting the morning commute. Freezing rain and shower chances may take a break late this morning and through the early afternoon, but scattered shower chances increase later in the day. The warmer air to the south will gradually lift to the north but temperatures will still be below freezing until early afternoon in areas north of I-70 where additional freezing rain is possible. Temperatures climb into the 40s in the Ozarks by evening and rise above freezing up to HWY 24 as more rain moves in late in the day. Rain will become moderate to heavy at times in the Ozarks with possible t-storms Wednesday evening and overnight. There is a marginal severe storm threat for areas near I-44 where an isolated storm with large hail or strong wind gusts is possible.
TONIGHT: Into this evening showers will continue along the I-44 corridor, where temperatures remain steady overnight in the upper 40s. Past midnight showers will become more widespread as they expand north. North of Jefferson City more freezing rain is possible as overnight temperatures hover around freezing. With winds out of the northwest wind chill values will be in the upper 20s.
EXTENDED: As a cold front moves in Thursday morning, a light wintry mix is possible before precipitation ends by noon as colder air moves in. Winds through the day pick up with sustained winds up to 20-25 mph. Behind the front, expect temperatures to drastically drop through the day Thursday, with overnight lows dipping to near 10 Thursday night into Friday morning. Highs will only reach the mid 20s Friday, dropping back into the teens Friday night. It looks like we’ll warm slightly this upcoming weekend, but Saturday still looks on the cool side. Highs will rise just above freezing into the mid 30s with mostlly sunny skies. By Saturday night and Sunday we see another chance of rain/ snow mix. Areas north of I-70 see the best chance of snow, making a changeover to the mix to the south. Watch ABC 17 News for the latest forecast and check back here for updates.
