Murray out of US Open in 3rd round; Serena plays at night

NEW YORK (AP) — Matteo Berrettini has ended Andy Murray’s bid to return to the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament by beating the the three-time major 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (1), 6-3 at the U.S. Open. Murray hasn’t reached the round of 16 in one of tennis’ four biggest tournaments since Wimbledon in 2017, when he was ranked No. 1. He later had two operations on his right hip and a metal implant. He won the 2012 U.S. Open and Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016. Berrettini was the runner-up at Wimbledon last year. Serena Williams is scheduled to play Ajla Tomljanovic at night in Arthur Ashe Stadium.
