Troopers respond to slide-offs as freezing rain chance grows
Law enforcement officers have responded to dozens of slide-offs and calls for service Tuesday. ABC 17 News is livestreaming road conditions below.
Sgt. Eric Brown, with Troop B of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, said there is a layer of ice on highways north of Moberly, near Macon, as well as other areas.
Brown said they have responded to 149 calls for service, 44 stranded motorists and 39 crashes Tuesday as of 7 p.m. “Avoid travel if you can and assume a wet road is an icy road.”
In a tweet, troopers said several cars have ended up off the road.
“The road conditions can be very deceiving,” troopers said on Twitter. “The roads are improving quickly after (the Missouri Department of Transportation) has time to work on them. Crashes are beginning to occur on the eastern half of the Troop as it begins to rain there.”
There is a chance of freezing rain in several areas in Mid-Missouri from Tuesday evening to Wednesday morning.
