Columbia, Jefferson City schools increase annual scores
Public schools in Columbia and Jefferson City raised their overall ratings on the state’s Annual Performance Report based on their performance last school year.
APR determines schools’ accreditation status each year and measures categories such as standardized test scores, college and career readiness and graduation rates. Scores in each category are combined using a formula to arrive at an overall percentage score.
Schools scoring above 70 percent keep their accreditation. Those scoring lower risk losing accreditation or being put on provisional status.
The state released the numbers to the public at midnight Friday after allowing journalists to view the data in advance.
Columbia Public Schools earned 93.3 percent of the possible points on the APR, significantly higher than recent years in which the score hovered in the 80s, reaching a high in 2016 at 86.8 percent.
Jefferson City Public Schools also made a large jump in its ratings from previous years with 87.9 percent, a high for the past four years.
Both schools logged a 7.5 out of 10 points in attendance. CPS earned 30 out of 30 points in graduation rate, while Jefferson City scored 22.5 points out of 30.
Several mid-Missouri schools, including most in Boone and surrounding counties, earned pefect scores in attendance and graduation rate. A few area districts, including Moniteau County R-V, Tipton and Renick, logged perfect overall scores.
