NEW YORK (AP) — Venus Williams has lost her first-round match at the U.S. Open. The seven-time major champion was beaten by Alison Van Uytvanck in straight sets. Tuesday’s match came a day after Serena Williams won her first-round match in a much fuller and louder Arthur Ashe Stadium. Venus, who turned 42 in June, has not made any pronouncements about her future in tennis, unlike her younger sibling. This was the second appearance in a row that Venus bowed out in the opening round at Flushing Meadows. It never had happened to her before 2020. She missed last year’s tournament. Defending champion Emma Raducanu also lost in the first round.
