Thawing out Sunday, arctic air returns Monday
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy skies stick around, keeping our temperatures from getting as cold as we’ve seen in recent nights. Places will more snow on the ground in our northern counties will drop to the middle teens, with the rest of Mid-Missouri bottoming out in the low to mid 20s.
SUNDAY: Snow flurries are possible in the morning but most areas will stay dry with warming temperatures to the mid 30s north of I-70 to near 40 along I-70 and into the lower 40s in the Ozarks Sunday afternoon. Winds will shift to the south up to 10 mph under partly sunny skies.
EXTENDED: Rain will develop late Sunday night in northern Missouri and move south through early Monday morning, ahead of an arctic cold front. As the rain moves in, temperatures will be in the mid to upper 30s through 8 AM Monday. Temperatures will fall throughout day Monday as much colder air moves in with gusty northerly winds. Light snow showers are possible from mid-morning through the afternoon with little to no accumulation. By 5 PM, we’ll already be in the teens with wind chills near zero. Bitterly cold air settles in Monday night with lows near 8 and wind chills as low as 10 below zero by early Tuesday morning. Days will be very cold from Tuesday through Thursday with highs in the teens and overnight lows 0 to 5. Wind chills could drop as low as 15 below zero by early Wednesday morning.
