Frigid day on Sunday

SUNDAY: After getting off to a frigid start this morning, temperatures warm to near 20 for many of us to the mid 20s further south toward Lake of the Ozarks with mostly cloudy skies. Even though winds will be backing off a bit, wind chills will start out below zero in some locations this morning and hover in the single digits for much of the day. A fast moving clipper system will move through in the afternoon, giving us a chance at some snow showers, with at most a dusting expected.

TONIGHT: We’ll hang on to partly cloudy skies tonight, which will help keep our temperatures overnight from dropping below the middle teens. Take a look up at the moon tonight if you’re outside. If you’re lucky enough to catch it between clouds you’ll see it turn a reddish color during the first lunar eclipse of 2019.

EXTENDED: We’ll see a little more sunshine heading into Monday and temperatures a bit closer to normal behind a warm front lifting through the region. Winds will be increasing into the afternoon as our next storm system moves closer. Tuesday’s forecast becomes a bit tricky with the timing of this next system being crucial. If this system comes in Tuesday morning, it will bring the chance of seeing a wintry mix before warming enough to see just rain. We could see a brief changeover to snow if precipitation can hang on into Tuesday evening, but available moisture and timing will be everything with this system. More cold air returns once this precipitation moves out for Wednesday, with temperatures struggling to get back to the freezing mark. Stick with ABC 17 on-air and online for the newest information.
