Arctic air moving into Mid-Missouri

***WINTER STORM WARNING for Monroe county until 3 PM Saturday. WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY for the rest of Mid-Missouri***

SATURDAY: While the freezing line never quite caught up to the bulk of the moisture, we’re seeing some light snow falling along and north of I-70 this morning. You still want to watch for slick spots this morning, as any moisture could cause a problem on exposed roadways like bridges and overpasses. Temperatures will fall throughout the day, getting down into the upper teens and lower 20s this afternoon. With winds out of the northwest gusting to 35 mph, wind chills will be in the single digits for much of the day.

TONIGHT: Those winds will back off heading into the overnight hours, but they will have done their job moving in some of the coldest air we’ve seen thus far. Overnight lows will range from 5 to 15 degrees with wind chills as cold as 10 below zero.

EXTENDED: We won’t have quite as much wind to deal with on Sunday, but temperatures will still remain frigid, topping out in the low 20s with partly cloudy skies. Continued sunshine and winds turning out of the south on Monday help get our temperatures back into the middle 30s in the afternoon. The next system to affect Mid-Missouri moves in Tuesday, which will bring the chance of rain changing to snow before ending. The track of the low will be a big factor as to how fast we change over to snow and if we could see any accumulations. Cold air returns for Wednesday with highs struggling to get back to the freezing mark. Stick with ABC 17 on-air and online for the newest information.
