Dept. of Corrections addresses staffing issues

The Missouri Department of Corrections announced it is combatting its staffing shortage and low wages with plans to consolidate two corrections centers.

In a press conference held with Gov. Mike Parson on Friday, the Department said it plans to consolidate Crossroads Correctional Center and Western Missouri Correctional Center, both located in Cameron. It would move CRCC workers to WMCC and other understaffed facilities nearby, the department said in a press release. It would then ainvest the savings in wage increases for 11,232 MODOC employees.

The department said it does not plan to lay off employees in the process and will not release any offenders who were not scheduled to be released.
