Sheriff’s Department confirms shooting death

UPDATE 12:30 P.M.: Neighbors believe drugs played a major role in the shooting.

Several neighbors said people come to and from the residence at all hours, day or night. One neighbor said drivers often park up the street before walking to the house.

Two neighbors said they saw a car they believe was driven by the suspect leave the house Monday morning around 11 a.m with several people in it.

Cheston Fox lives in the neighborhood. He said he believes someone people are visiting the house to buy drugs.

“A lot of drugs, especially meth house over there. They’re always running in and out, constantly. Every twenty minutes five people come in and out and leave and come back,” he said. “They don’t make it unobvious. They just park right there and then walk in and out.”

Deputies were still driving around the neighborhood Monday morning.

ORIGINAL: The Boone County Sheriff’s Department confirmed it was investigating a shooting death after deputies found a man dead with a gunshot wound on Sunday morning.

ABC 17 News had crews at the scene in the 200 block of Sarazen Drive in the Fairview Meadows subdivision east of Columbia early Sunday morning. When deputies arrived at 7 a.m., they found a man had been shot, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initial reports from the scene indicated there were a suspect or possibly more than one suspect armed in the neighborhood around Demaret Drive shortly after 7 a.m. Sunday. No suspects have been arrested.

“Based on interviews with other people at the residence the death has been determined a homicide,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a press release.
