St. Louis police kill man facing assault charge in Cole County

St. Louis police fatally shot a man facing charges in Cole County on Tuesday while officers responded to a carjacking.

Quency Floyd, 22, of St. Louis, allegedly ran from plainclothes St. Louis detectives before shooting at them. Four detectives shot back, killing Floyd, St. Louis police said. No officers were injured in the exchange.

Cole County prosecutors charged Floyd in the shooting of his girlfriend in the shoulder last November. Court documents say witnesses heard two people arguing on East Elm Street before police found a 20-year-old Jefferson City woman covered in blood from a single gunshot wound to her right shoulder. Floyd was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action in connection with the incident.
