MU prepares for more snow as cleanup continues
The University of Missouri is preparing for another possible snow storm while still clearning up from the one last weekend.
All residence halls will open at 9 a.m. Thursday, a day earlier than what was originally scheduled, MU officials wrote in an email to students.
Dining plans will also be active again starting Thursday. The Plaza 900 dining hall will be open to serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.
“This storm brought heavy snow, causing damage to nearly a third of Mizzou’s trees,” Vice Chancellor for Operations Gary Ward said in a news release. “Fallen branches that impede foot traffic or those that cause a hazard overhead are being removed.”
Ward also said some building entrances and sidewalks “may be closed to prevent injury” because snow might start falling off of roofs once temperatures rise.
Snow is still covering mid-Missouri several days after the massive weekend snow storm. The National Weather Service measured 16.9 inches of heavy, wet snow last weekend at the Columbia Regional Airport.
Some roads remained covered or partly covered Wednesday. Several schools either closed, started late or had buses running on snow routes only.
Several more inches of snow might fall on the area this coming weekend, followed by bitter cold. Northern parts of central Missouri were under a winter weather advisory from Wednesday night to noon Thursday with a chance of accumulating ice and sleet.
